Military Spouse Career Coalition

Our Mission:

The Military Spouse Career Coalition (MSCC) is a collaborative effort of community leaders, employers, and like-minded partners to promote meaningful employment opportunities for Military Spouses.

We achieve this through three strategic goals:

Employment:  We facilitate meaningful Military Spouse employment through Military Spouse employment preparation assistance, employer partner engagement, and community best practices.

Communications: We spotlight and promote local, state, and national career resources available to Military Spouses.

Legislature: We track and support legislation and DoD initiatives that influence and affect Military Spouse employment issues.

Dozens More Employers Join DOD’s Spouse Jobs Program

An additional 76 employers joined DOD’s Military Spouse Employment Partnership program at a ceremony last week, Military Times reported.

Military Times also listed the newest employers to join. They represent a mix of private sector, public sector, nonprofit and academic organizations.

Linda Gilday, spouse of the chief of naval operations, told the employers they are “opening the door to a very qualified group of committed, adaptive, resilient and creative group of men and women. They’re educated and trained. They’re just what you need.”

The DOD program is now in its 11th year and has helped place almost 250,000 military spouses in jobs across all sectors. More than 600 employers are now part of the program.

Military advocate and spouse, Heba Abdelaal, honored with Spirit of the Springs Award
Mayor John Suthers presented the Spirit of the Springs  Celebration Award to Heba Abdelaal during a presentation at the Military Spouse Coffee on Thursday, August 4. Heba, who has served as the Legislative Committee Chairman for the Military Spouse Coalition for over four years, was recognized for her advocacy for military families and increasing employment opportunities for military spouses in Colorado Springs. Abdelaal recently relocated and virtually attended the event.

“With her extensive congressional background, coupled with a deep sense of personal and professional responsibility to advocate for changes in laws, policies, regulations, and programs, Heba enabled thousands of military spouses to find employment across the state,” said Mayor Suthers. “Her efforts have increased the quality of life for many military families in our region and ensured that Colorado Springs remains a model city for military spouse employment.”

Abdelaal serves as the policy advisor to the National Military Spouse Network (NMSN) and co-authored “The Military Spouse Employment Dilemma”, featured in Air Force Magazine and the Military Times. She has engaged with military spouses around the world to promote family health and welfare. Abdelaal also championed significant legislative change ensuring military spouses with a professional license in good standing can easily apply for and obtain a temporary license to work in Colorado.

The Office of the Mayor welcomes the opportunity to recognize exceptional individuals and organizations within the City of Colorado Springs with a Spirit of the Springs Celebration Award. These awards are presented to recipients by the Mayor or an official designee to honor them for outstanding achievements. Visit ColoradoSprings.gov/SpiritoftheSprings for more information.
